A starvation diet in my mind is any diet where you starve yourself. I know that when we take a diet we will usually limit our calories to burn more calories than we eat but in a starvation diet we limit calories to such an extent that it affects our metabolism and forces our body to jump in phase a diet where we are no longer able to lose.
To understand a starvation diet, we need to see what we do in our bodies when we decide not to eat at all for a few days. First of all our body will think that we are right between our meals and our body will begin to use the sugar in the blood and then start burning the carbohydrates until they leave.
Once we have used up carbohydrates our body should use fat and muscle tissue for energy but instead it will begin to reduce our metabolism to a fight to protect our body … this is the phase of hunger. Eventually, if we did not eat our body, it would start burning our fat and muscles and our metabolism would be slow to a point where it would become very lethargic and our organs would begin to slow down and eventually we would close and die.
There are not many people who will go as bad as we are seeing people with bulimia, something that certainly happens sometimes.
Rather than using a starvation diet to lose what most diets tend to do is confuse mind and body so that our metabolism stays up and will continue to burn fat while we hope it does not burn muscle we are almost as fast. If we look at bodybuilders in the diet phase before a contest, they have to lose all their fat so they have the diet hard enough and expect to lose some of their muscle – in fact, a little bit of muscle.
When looking at a diet and do not want to starve look at the following points.
1. What is the purpose of your diet? Usually the goal is to lose fat
2. What are you going to do to lose that fat? If your body's diet should stay a little comfortable and if you try to lose too fast you will go into a hunger state.
3. What will you do to increase your metabolism? Most people will use exercise for two reasons: first, exercise will burn calories to help you lose weight, but even more importantly exercise will force your body to increase your metabolism so it can be ready when more exercise is done.
By reading this I hope you will see your body like me, and that is that our bodies are machines that adapt to the stimuli quite quickly. Your body will speed up and slow down calorie burning and fat storage. I hope this will help you a bit to learn to control your body by using diet and exercise.
